“Indeed,” Rose agreed, she was prone to impulsivity, but she knew better than to go seeking fights. Finishing her drink, she set the mug on the floor next to the couch and tucked her hands under the fluffy blanket, “I would have thought protecting the clan would go without saying.”

"One interpretation is that a lot of these should go without saying. The next, raising one's children as Mandalorians, is probably unspoken for most cultures." Orella shrugged. "After all, the only way for traditions to survive is to be passed on."

Rose nodded slowly, her brow furrowing, something inside her balked at the idea. Orella, however, had inadvertently provided an escape route, and the redhead seized on that. “That’s true, a tradition is only as strong as the people who carry it on,” under the blanket her fingers twisted together as she hoped the young woman wouldn’t notice Rose was mostly talking out her ass.

Orella looked the other woman over with appraising eyes. She tapped her chin in thought and, eventually, it seemed like no satisfying conclusion came to her because her lips turned to a pensive frown.
"Is everything alright?" Orella asked, "Something seems wrong, at least to me." She eased back in her position, giving space to the other woman. "I know that we aboard the Aurora have the strength to carry on the traditions."

"I'll be honest with you, Orella," Rose answered, mostly honest, at least. "It's a lot to take in all once," her fingers untwisted. One of her hands reappeared, stroking the long pink fur of the blanket, "you've been practising since you were little, but this was sorta sprung on me pretty much yesterday."
The redhead flicked at her messy hair, "I'm starting at a disadvantage, compared to the others."

"Well, it's never too late to pick up a skill," Orella noted. She then smirked and patted the blaster by her side. "I suppose that means I have less of an excuse for my shoddy aim. Anyhow, people join the culture in their adulthood all the time. Well, less frequently nowadays, but the Mandalorians were built on that foundation."

Not one to feel sorry for herself, "no time like the present," Rose grinned. "If you'd like some pointers for that," the redhead indicated to Orella's blaster, "maybe I can return the favour?"

"Someone new to give me pointers couldn't hurt," Orella replied, "Though my parents and even my siblings have each tried themselves."

Tapping a finger against her lips, "perhaps they were lacking sufficient motivation." Rose grinned and winked at the young woman.

"You best not say that in front of my mother," Orella said, giggling in between words, "She had the biggest ego, even more than my sister. She just has better control over herself."

Rose's eye opened wide in mock-horror, grinning. The redhead mimed zipping her lips, "mum's the word, pun fully intended," and she dissolved into giggles herself.

"I suppose 'mum' works but I tried to keep my Basic more formal Imperial." Orella shrugged. "It helped with blending in when I needed to. Stuck with me, though, even if my accent was never perfect."

Rose blushed lightly under her freckles, her accent was a mish-mash of regions, the result was the bland sort of non-accent used in the holo-shows, with the occasional strange inflection thrown in here and there. "Well, maybe I'll learn if I spend enough time with you."

"Plenty of time," Orella reassured. She pulled out her datapad and flicked through a few of the programs. "I wonder if I still have any language software on here. I mostly used it to learn other languages but surely Mando'a is on here."

“Oh,” Rose chuckled, “you don’t mean the one with porg mascot, do you? If you’re busy and you miss a day, you start getting messages with those big porg eyes to make you feel guilty.”
